Sara Reed is the current owner/operator of the Nursing Nook. Sara has a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Biology and is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant with a certification in Perinatal Mental Health. She has worked for The Nursing Nook since it began in 2004 and she works part time as the lactation consultant for Johnson City Pediatrics. She has recently began educating and mentoring aspiring IBCLC students. She is married and has 2 children, who were both successfully breastfed. Sara has years of experience and is passionate about helping moms and their babies have a successful breastfeeding and infant feeding experience.
Kate Johnson, originally from Washington State, moved to Tennessee in 2016. She graduated from Ross Medical Education Center in Knoxville, TN in 2017 as a Registered Medical Assistant, and then Southern New Hampshire University with her Bachelor of Arts in Human Services in 2023. She got her Certified Breastfeeding Specialist in 2022 and became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in 2024. Kate currently works at First Choice Pediatrics as a nurse. She has 1 son who she attempted to breastfeed but did not have lactation support available at the time. For this reason, Kate is passionate about helping moms with their breastfeeding journey by giving them the help, support, and resources they need to have a better breastfeeding experience.
Brittany Harris graduated from King College in 2011 with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse in various departments at the hospital before going to work at First Choice Pediatrics, where she currently works in the evening clinic. She finished her training as a Certified Breastfeeding Specialist in 2022 and became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in 2024. She is married and has 2 children, both of which she breastfed for a year. After her own experience with breastfeeding and all the support she received, Brittany wants to help other moms and their babies have access to lactation support so their breastfeeding journey can be successful.
Andrea Craft graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Science from Maryville College in 1998 and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Tennessee in 2001. She worked as a Registered Nurse in the NICU from 2001-2007 and finished her training to be a Certified Lactation Counselor in 2005. She took time off to spend with her husband and 2 children, both of which were successfully breastfed. Andrea has completed her 500 mentor hours and will be taking the exam to become an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in September 2024. Now that she is ready to get back to work, she wants to help new parents and their babies navigate feeding challenges and be there to support them throughout their journey.
Erin McPherson graduated from ETSU in 2008 with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She worked in Labor and Delivery until 2013, in pediatrics from 2014-2022 and is now a school nurse. Erin is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant with 10+ years experience. She has 2 children that were both breastfed despite having some difficulty early on, with one spending time in the NICU. With her experience overcoming early breastfeeding issues, including a baby in the NICU, Erin wants to help moms overcome their feeding obstacles and be successful with breastfeeding.
Ashley Rock, a Californian by birth but southern girl at heart, studied at St Mary’s College and Samuel Merritt College in California and is a Registered Nurse. She spent most of her nursing career in labor and delivery, which is where she learned about the incredible benefits of breastfeeding. She breastfed her 3 children but lacked good support. Ashley is currently homeschooling her children and working towards becoming an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. She wants to help other moms feel supported and help mom and baby flourish together.
